The Daily Dishcloth Aug 12, 2010


MATERIALS: Cotton worsted weight; Approx 13 yds each of colors Red, Yellow, Lavender. Small amount Black/white Variegated for edge.
Size 7 Needles - Size G Crochet Hook - Tapestry Needle - 2 Markers

GAUGE: 4 stitches per inch

SIZE: Cloth measures approx 7" x 7-1/2"

SKILL LEVEL: Easy - Some crochet knowledge helfpful

BEGIN CLOTH - 1st Red Yarn Section:
With knitting needles and Red yarn, cast on 28 stitches.
ROW 1: K 4, place marker, K 20, place marker, K remaining 4 sts.
NOTE: On every row throughout, you will be knitting the first and last four stitches. Placing markers will be a helpful reminder.
ROW 2: K 4, Purl 20 to marker, K 4.
ROW 3: Knit all stitches across
ROW 4 & 6: Repeat Row 2
ROW 5 & 7: Repeat Row 3
ROW 8: [wrong side] Knit all stitches across. Cut red yarn.

BEGIN 1st Yellow Yarn Section:
ROW 9: Join Yellow yarn and Knit all stitches across
ROW 10: K4, P4, K4, P4, K4, P4, K4
ROW 11: Knit all stitches across
ROW 12 & 14: Repeat Row 10
ROW 13 & 15: Repeat Row 11
ROW 16: Knit all stitches across. Cut yellow yarn.

BEGIN Lavender Yarn Section
ROW 17: Join Lavender yarn and knit all stitches across.
ROW 18: K 8, P 4, K 4, P 4, K 8
ROW 19: Knit all stitches across. ROW 20 & 22: Repeat Row 18
ROW 21 & 23: Repeat Row 19
ROW 24: Knit all stitches across. Cut lavender yarn.

2nd Yellow Section: Join yellow yarn; work next 8 rows same as 1st yellow section, Cut yarn.

2nd Red Section: Join red yarn; work 8 rows same as 1st red section. Bind off last row across. Cut yarn.

CLOTH EDGING:
With crochet hook and variegated Black/White yarn, join in 3rd stitch from end of bound off row; sc in next 2 stitches; *2 sc in corner stitch; 25 sc in nxt 25 stitches. Rep from * around to 1st sc; sl st to top of 1st ch. Fasten off. Cut yarn.

FINISHING:
With Tapestry needle and black yarn, randomly sew yarn in a zig-zag manner where the red and yellow sections join as pictured. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
